Estimates & Projections
Knowing where population growth occurs is important to many B2C companies. However, knowing why an increase in population occurs provides decision makers with a valuable edge. Indicia's Growing Community File provides accurate population estimates and tags every Canadian Neighbourhood with the most probable factor for growth, i.e. urban development, immigration or natural population growth.
An estimate was computed for most of the commonly used socio-demographic variables, both for the current year (2010) and for 2015. These inferences took in consideration the recent national and regional estimates and projections in Canada for the corresponding years.
Community Clusters
Indicia Community Clusters provide 25 intuitive groups separated into 67 sub-clusters. Intuitive clustering criteria include the Region (Quebec vs the rest of Canada), Density (Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) Core, CMA Secondary Core, Urban Areas Outside CMA, Rural Areas and Unpopulated Areas), as well as the time of construction (before 1945, between 1946 and 1970, or 1970 and after).
More than 200 socio-demographic variables were tested and used to separate the intuitive groups into sub-clusters.
Daytime Population
Indicia's Daytime Population takes into consideration variables such as the population aged 0 to 5 (pre-school), the unemployed segment and the non-working population. Indicia has also compiled the total number of companies in the country by postal code and number of employees. This compilation was used to estimate the total number of daytime "inworkers" for each of the Canadian neighbourhoods. Also, using a comprehensive list of elementary and high schools as well as colleges, universities and other learning institutions, Indicia estimated the total student inflow for each neighbourhoods. A total daytime population was then established using all these various groups of population.
